Check out these choice words and cute drawings from Elementary School students at the International School of Beijing (ISB) submitted for the first edition of Blank, a new bilingual children's literature and art magazine.

Blank, the first publication of its kind in the region, is initiated and sponsored by ISB's Chinese Language and Culture Center (CLCC) in partnership with InkBeat. The magazine will be launched with a party at the CLCC on Thursday, December 13.

The CLCC itself was established earlier this year to not only provide quality instruction in academic Chinese but to offer a variety of programs enriching students' and expatriates' lives in China. Blank is a prime example of the CLCC fulfilling its mission to develop educational partnerships within the community – InkBeat was founded by ISB alumnus Simon Shieh as a social enterprise dedicated to creative arts education.

The first issue of Blank has collected grade 5 work from ISB and Yew Chung International School of Beijing inspired by a series of writing workshops with visiting Chinese writer Wu Ang. Ms. Wu showed students how they could use detail to greater effect in their poems. A memorable moment in her workshop was when she asked students to observe details about each other and created a poem with everyone on the spot.

All submissions to Blank received feedback from the editors. Write on!
