The International School of Beijing (ISB) got off to a delicious, and convivial, start on August 25, with the PTA and Head of School Welcome Breakfast. Head of School, Patrick Hurworth greeted the newest members of our ever-expanding community of parents, and shared with them the Mission, Vision, and Core Values of ISB, as well as the strategic initiatives for the year ahead.
This being Mr. Hurworth's first year at ISB, he outlined his firm commitment to the school's operating principles. "I am excited to be at ISB because of our uncompromising focus on bringing out the best in each student," said Mr. Hurworth. He went on to stress the immense benefits of the school's innovative experiential learning, tailored instruction, and emphasis on developing individual passion for knowledge.
Mr. Hurworth also expressed the hope that parents absorb and reflect ISB's school culture in their families and within the community. "As a community, we want to fully prepare our students for the demands of college, career, and citizenship in the 21st century," he said. "To achieve that, we have a collective responsibility to model our Core Values."
PTA President Cherry Wu outlined opportunities for ISB's more than 400 new parents to contribute to the community through volunteering with the organization. Ms. Wu particularly encouraged parents to help-out with International Day and Spring Fair, two of ISB's biggest annual events.
The Vendors Fair, which took place following the breakfast, offered new families the chance to meet with representatives from some of Beijing's medical clinics, sports centers, food providers, and other businesses, who offer assistance to new families transitioning to life in China.
