International School of Beijing (ISB) students are celebrating another year of excellent results in the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme, with an average score of 38 – five points higher than the global average.

ISB students’ IB average has been at 35 points or above since 2009. Demonstrating consistent excellence, their average score has now been five to seven points above the global average for over a decade. ISB students achieved a pass rate of 100 percent in the latest round of IB exams. While one was awarded the maximum 45 points out of 45, ISB is proud of all its students realizing their potential in the world’s toughest college preparatory program. They excelled in a range of IB courses chosen carefully to reflect their interests and plans.

With close to 50 countries and regions represented in the student body and ISB offering a leading Chinese and dual language program among international schools, it’s perhaps not surprising that 23 of the 71 IB Diplomas awarded to ISB students were bilingual diplomas. The ISB Class of 2021 have received offers from a huge range of universities worldwide.

ISB’s academic program in the High School balances the breadth of the IB Diploma Programme with a choice of courses tailored to individual student interests. Incoming High School Principal Jeff Holcomb said, “Well done to members of the Class of 2021 who participated in the IB Diploma Programme! ISB is known for its excellent academic outcomes, and I’m excited to get to know the school’s bright, hard-working students, their supportive parents, as well as the teachers and counselors giving them the best chance of success.

“Last year’s graduates of ISB will be looking forward to their futures and entering top universities and colleges worldwide. They can do so safe in the knowledge of how well they have been prepared by an ISB education and pursuing the IB.

“That ISB students have performed as well as they have, especially given the hardships of the past couple of years, is a credit to their diligence, and the expertise and care of their teachers and counselors. Year after year, ISB students achieve impressive results that compare very favorably with highly academically selective schools in Beijing, China, Asia, and around the world. For their high degree of commitment and accomplishments, I offer my congratulations to all those students who participated in last year’s IB exams.”

While applauding the students, Mr. Holcomb thanked 2020-2021 High School Principal Lorraine Wicks, Assistant Principal Julie Lemley, IB Curriculum Coordinator Belinda McRoberts, and all High School counselors and teachers for their work preparing the students for exams.

ISB is looking forward to seeing all students back on campus next week as faculty, staff, and families are anticipating another year of academic excellence and challenging and joyful learning.

Mrs. Lemley added, “With a new academic year just around the corner, we can’t wait to continue seeing the Class of 2022 achieve their potential and build on the legacy of previous classes. Every year, ISB students can take advantage of our personalized learning pathways in the areas of academics, a balanced co-curricular program, and experiential learning. We hope through our dynamic programs that our students find their place in the world through compassionate impact and by serving others.
