Graduation sends Grade 12 out with a bang

By Nick Yates, ISB Communications

Congratulations to our Seniors on graduating from the International School of Beijing (ISB)!

ISB’s oldest students on Thursday enjoyed a graduation observance hosted on campus, with the experience all the more sweet after a long period when it seemed Covid-19 would make the event, such a milestone in school life, impossible. ISB was only allowed to re-open campus to Grade 12 on April 27, and it took a huge effort from the High School team, including student volunteers, to organize their graduation in such a short space of time.

With a lot of students and their proud families and teachers still outside of Beijing because of travel restrictions, the graduation observance was livestreamed to be watched by as many community members as possible. ISB has worked hard throughout the campus closure for Covid-19 to maintain its normal operations and pull people together. Students not able to attend the observance physically were there virtually, and the Seniors are now heading off to their next stage in life with full community support.

They can reflect on another year of high achievement, with Seniors having received offers from universities worldwide. College acceptance notifications continue to flood in for our students (see graphic below).

Graduation-backs-of-heads

The final weeks of High School at ISB are momentous ones, the culmination of a tailored education that prepares young people for success whatever future direction they choose. The students, some of whom have been at ISB from Kindergarten, have had lots of fun and memorable experiences along the way. Offering diverse opportunities to excel in sports, performing arts, and service, ISB’s approach places value on the student’s health and character development along with their academic performance.

When planning and organizing activities, the school has Covid-19 safety measures in place that were developed in collaboration with local authorities to provide for community safety. After returning to campus, Grade 12 took part in a range of transition activities to celebrate their time at ISB and get them ready for their next steps. The past few days have featured the annual High School Awards (YouTube link) and Seniors Parade.

Students also got the chance to learn about interview skills, financial literacy, create in the school’s makerspace, tour the new performing arts facilities, and enjoy some games indoors and outdoors with friends. In collaboration with ISB’s Alumni Office, they joined a forum featuring ISB alumni sharing their professional experiences.

The current crop may have finished with their schooling at ISB, but they’ll always be welcome back. Once a Dragon, always a Dragon!
