Visual Art
The High School Art Program provides the opportunity for students to prepare for a college or university program leading to a career in art. It also allows students to develop their interest in art as a life skill, general knowledge, pleasure and self-expression. Students in High School Art courses work with a variety of media in each of three major areas: Two-Dimensional Art; drawing, painting, printmaking, graphic design, and paper arts. Three-Dimensional Art; sculpture, ceramics and textiles. Time-Based Art; digital and video images, installation, performance, conceptual, and environmental art.
In each art course:
- Students will generate ideas and select subject matter, symbols and media to create meaningful artworks.
- Students will know and be able to manipulate elements of art and principles of design to create art works.
- Students will explore and apply a variety of art media, tools and techniques for self-expression in their artwork.
- Students will use problem-solving skills in producing and evaluating artwork.
- Students will use and compare identifiable artist models representing different cultures and historical moments in their artwork.
- Students will demonstrate caring and knowledge of safety precautions in the art studio.
