Computer Science
The High School Computer Science Department offers a range of courses to meet diverse student needs. These courses can be divided into three levels, and are all varied in subject matter and degree of difficulty. Data Design, Multimedia Authoring, Computer Connectivity and Video Production are level one courses that focus on the use of technology in a specialist area. Level Two consists of four extended courses: Multimedia Authoring II, Data Design II, Computer Connectivity II, and Video Production II, which are available for those students who wish to expand on the skills and knowledge acquired in these subject areas. These extended courses introduce advanced skills and allow students the opportunity to complete a large-scale, planned project. The International Baccalaureate Computer Science course is available to students entering grade 11 who have previously completed a level two course. This two-year course is ideally suited to students who may wish to pursue further study or a career in the field of Computer Science. The Department is dedicated to a skills-based and project-centered program. Every effort is made to use current hardware and software. An emphasis is placed on solving “reallife” computational problems using meaningful application projects. The department provides students many opportunities to successfully integrate information technology into their lives.
